LIVE: England v Sri Lanka - Champions Trophy action from The Oval as it happens

22nd over: England 96-1 (Cook 39, Trott 26)
Trott looking to take the attack to Kulasekara.
The Sri Lanka bowler saw Trott advancing down the wicket with the third delivery and dropped it short. It was a good bouncer that hurried Trott into a top edge that landed safe.
Five from the over in total but probing stuff from Kulasekara.
21st over: England 91-1 (Cook 37, Trott 23)
Herath continues although there looks to be little spin on offer for him.
A couple of exuberant, optimistic appeals are turned down and England take six singles from the over - one of them a leg bye.
20th over: England 85-1 (Cook 35, Trott 20)
Kulasekara is back to replace Eranga.
Just a single from the over for Cook. Trott tried to steal a single to backward point from the final delivery. There was never a run there and Cook sent him back. He would have been out with a direct hit.
19th over: England 84-1 (Cook 34, Trott 20)

40th over: England 201-2 (Trott 70, Root 39)
It's all happening in this over!
First Root slices a drive up in the air but the ball was agonisingly just out of reach of point. Dilshan got a finger to it but couldn't hold on, that's not the first time I've said that today.
A single from the fourth delivery brings up England's 200, still over 10 overs remaining and the likes of Morgan, Buttler and Bopara still waiting.
Six more runs from that over, a very good powerplay for England.
39th over: England 195-2 (Trott 68, Root 35)
Trott hits his fourth boundary with a drive from a full and wide third delivery. Perfect timing beats Jayawardene's dive in the deep.
Nine runs from Eranga's over in total. Both he and Sangakkara were far from happy with a wide call from Aleem Dar in that over.
England, on the other hand, are very pleased with the way things are going.
38th over: England 186-2 (Trott 62, Root 33)
Root doesn't look phased by Malinga at all. England score eight more runs from that over. Root did look a bit lost on the last delivery, though. He tried to pull Malinga away but ended up getting two runs through the covers with a leading edge.
37th over: England 178-2 (Trott 60, Root 28)
Eranga to bowl from the Pavilion End.
An inventive ramp shot from Root earns him four down to fine leg - who is inside the 30-yard circle.
Seven runs from the over again. Another good one for England.
Meanwhile, Sportsmail's Lawrence Booth has posted an intriguing tweet: 'Trott's scores in all international cricket in 2013: 68, 65*, 38, 45, 52, 121, 27, 37, 39, 56, 28, 76, 37, 109*, 37, 43 and now 50*. Handy.'
36th over: England 171-2 (Trott 58, Root 23)
MALINGA IS BACK! He was being saved for the powerplay.
Nobody told Trott, though. He clips Malinga over midwicket for a boundary. Effortless and very well timed from Trott.
Seven from the over - expensive by Malinga's standards. He has five overs left.
35th over: England 164-2 (Trott 51, Root 23)
Herath continues after the break, he's into his ninth over.
England take four runs from it and it's time for the batting powerplay.
Sportsmail's Paul Newman is in fine form on Twitter. Here's his latest tweet. 'Another half-century for Trott, his 21st. Only two fours but reached in 63 balls. That's absolutely fine...especially if he goes big!'
34th over: England 160-2 (Trott 50, Root 20)
Trott moves past 50 with a single down to mid on from the fourth delivery. Very good innings from him so far with a strike rate of 80.
Root continues to accumulate with ease. He's now on 20 from 18 balls.
Time for a drinks break.
33rd over: England 155-2 (Trott 49, Root 16)
Herath continues and Sri Lanka are still offering England easy singles.
Root has moved on to 16 from 15 balls with little trouble. I can't help feeling Sri Lanka missed a trick by not puttingt more pressure on him when he just came to the crease.
Seven runs from the over in total.
32nd over: England 149-2 (Trott 47, Root 11)
Three runs from the captain's first over back.
England have scored very well against the spinners. The one man who could, of course, change everything is Malinga. England still have a batting powerplay, though and look set for a good score.
31st over: England 146-2 (Trott 46, Root 10)
Four singles from Herath's seventh over. Root is in to double figures and Trott is four away from a half-century.
Mathews returns from the Vauxhall End.
30th over: England 142-2 (Trott 44, Root 8)
Six from the over. Root makes a quick start with eight runs from six deliveries. Sri Lanka not closing in and putting the pressure on the new batsmen.
England reach the 30-over mark at 142-2. They have wickets in hand and will look to double this in the last 20 overs.
29th over: England 134-2 (Trott 42, Root 2)
Joe Root joins Trott in the middle. Important period this for England coming up, they've done well to set the platform so far.
Herath makes the breakthrough for Sri Lanka to open up England's middle order.
Five runs and a wicket from the over.
WICKET Cook lbw Herath 59
Cook has to go. He has had a few chances today, but he's not surviving this one. It was a straight delivery that didn't turn, Cook tried to sweep but missed the ball. The only surprise was that Cook wasted England's review. Three red lights from hawk-eye and the captain is gone.
28th over: England 129-1 (Cook 58, Trott 40)
Cook dropped. It was Dilshan again, the man who dropped the first one. This time it was a caught and bowled attempt but Dilshan couldn't cling on as he flung himself to his right.
Much better from Dilshan anyway. He went for 18 in his first two overs but just three from this one.
27th over: England 126-1 (Cook 56, Trott 39)
A lot better from Herath. Just two singles from that over. Trott plays out four dot balls but doesn't panic. England are in a good position.
26th over: England 124-1 (Cook 55, Trott 38)
Expensive from Dilshan again. A reverse sweep from Trott earned him four from the first delivery.
Cook and Trott then take the five easy singles on offer. Sri Lanka have to find a way to reduce these easy singles. It's just effortless and no-risk cricket for England and they're scoring at over 4.7 runs per over.
25th over: England 115-1 (Cook 53, Trott 31)
Herath continues and England are just milk him for six singles.
Good smart cricket from this pair. Trott has his critics in ODI cricket, admittedly I'm normally one of them, but nobody can argue with the job he is doing today.
Let's remember that England were put in to bat. They are by far the happier team at the moment.
24th over: England 109-1 (Cook 50, Trott 28)
Cook looking to attack Dilshan straight away and he brings up his 50 with a single from the final delivery of the over.
Cook tucked the first ball away down to third man for four with a late cut and that set the tone for an expensive over from Dilshan - nine from it.
23rd over: England 100-1 (Cook 41, Trott 28)
100 up for England in the 23rd over. Four singles from it.
Meanwhile, the Trott debate rages on. He's doing nothing wrong today, scoring 28 from 35 balls and looking to get on with things.
Cook at the other end is on 41 from 66, a strike rate of just over 62.
Anyway, Dilshan on to bowl.
Sportsmail's Paul Newman tweets: 'Panic ye not England fans. They will be very happy with 87 for one off 20...building the platform again'
First sign of spin today as Herath comes on to bowl.
Trott gets a single to cover point from the third delivery to give Cook the strike and he takes three runs from the over.
18th over: England 80-1 (Cook 31, Trott 19)
Very busy over from England with four singles and a three from it. Cook moves to  31 with a three off the pads down to mid-wicket. Nicely placed.
17th over: England 73-1 (Cook 27, Trott 16)
Captain Mathews continues after the drinks break and England milk him for four runs.
Solid platform being built by these two.
16th over: England 69-1 (Cook 24, Trott 15)
Eranga into his fourth over and Trott dabs him down to third man for a single from the second delivery.
Cook rotates the strike again before two well-placed shots from Trott earn him two runs for each.
He's come in with intent. His waft at the final ball outside off stump shows that.
Six from the over and that's drinks.
15th over: England 63-1 (Cook 23, Trott 10)
Trott looking in good nick already. He flicks the second ball of the over from Mathews away between mid-on and mid-wicket for four.
Cook survives a scare from the final delivery. Dilshan drops him at backward point. It was a cut in the air from the England captain and a flying Dilshan couldn't hang on. Dilshan thought he should have caught it. It was tough but he got two hands to it.
Six runs from the over.
14th over: England 57-1 (Cook 22, Trott 5)
Trott looking very busy at the crease, as ever.
He scores two runs from the third delivery down to long leg before a single gets him off strike.
Cook pulls the last ball for a single to deep mid-wicket and will keep strike.
Four from the over.
13th over: England 53-1 (Cook 21, Trott 2)
Two singles from the over, one each for Cook and Trott.
Bell's dismissal today makes me question his role in the team even more. If Cook and Trott are both going to play then he MUST be the aggressor. 20 runs from 37 deliveries is simply not good enough.12th over: England 51-1 (Cook 20, Trott 1)
Trott joins Cook at the crease after Bell's dismissal and is off the mark straight away with a single.
England bring up their 50, run rate is 4.25.
WICKET Bell c Perera b Eranga 20
Very very very soft dismissal. Bell just flicked a short delivery away through mid-wicket. Perera takes the catch at chest height and Bell must go.
20 from 37 balls. Not good enough.
Sportsmail's Paul Newman tweets: 'Very soft dismissal from Ian Bell i'm afraid....chipped straight to mid-wicket'
11th over: England 47-0 (Cook 18, Bell 20)
Cook immediately looks to attack Mathews. The England captain hit his opposite number for four from the first delivery. It was a short delivery with no pace and Cook pulled away to square leg.
A much more productive over from England with a couple of twos and a single - nine from it in total.
10th over: England 38-0 (Cook 11, Bell 18)
Bell hits a boundary to break the shackles. It wasn't convincing, though.
Full and wide outside off stump from Eranga and Bell got down on one knee and hit it over the top of the covers. Not timed great, but had enough on it to reach the boundary.
Five from the over.
Double bowling change for Sri Lanka as Mathews comes in.
9th over: England 33-0 (Cook 10, Bell 14)
Bell gets away with one. The pressure was building as Sri Lanka dried up the runs. Bell could take it no more and hit a nothing shot in the air towards mid on. The ball fell just short of the diving Eranga and ran away for two runs.
Three off the over in total England have been quiet so far. Malinga is out of the attack now, Eranga comes in.
8th over: England 30-0 (Cook 9, Bell 12)
Malinga into his fourth over. Unusually long spell for him.
Cook gets a single from the second delivery with a think outside edge down to third man.
Apart from a wide fifth delivery, Malinga was right on the money to Bell.
Just the single from the over.
7th over: England 29-0 (Cook 8, Bell 12)
Bell gets a single in that over to move on to 12. Good fielding in the covers from Perera saves a run or two.
Cook looking edgy at the other end. He played and missed at the fifth delivery but Kulasekara was a little too straight with the final delivery and the England captain worked him through mid-wicket for three runs.
6th over: England 25-0 (Cook 5, Bell 11)
MASSIVE APPEAL from Malinga for lbw against Cook on the second ball. They decided not to review and rightly so, looked too high at first glance and hawk-eye confirmed that. To add insult to injury, the ball ran away through the slips for four leg byes.
Very good over from Malinga nonetheless. Cook looked uncomfortable on more than one occasion, most notably when he was squared up by one of Lasith's trademark toe-crunching yorkers.
5th over: England 21-0 (Cook 5, Bell 11)
Two runs from that over - a single for Bell and then a leg bye.
The wind is so strong that the bails keep blowing off. Not your typical June weather in England.
4th over: England 19-0 (Cook 5, Bell 10)
Two boundaries from Bell in that over.
First he cut Malinga away from the first delivery before pulling the third ball away through midwicket.
Bell then clips a full delivery down to square leg for a single.
Expensive from Malinga but he did beat Cook's outside edge with a full delivery outside off stump.
3rd over: England 10-0 (Cook 5, Bell 1)
Kulasekara continues and Cook clips him off the pads for a single down to fine leg at the start of the over.
Bell tried to get off the mark with a square cut from a short and wide third ball. He made good contact but a fine diving stop from Dilshan denied him.
Four leg byes from the fifth ball before Bell gets off the mark with a single to third man to keep strike.
2nd over: England 4-0 (Cook 4, Bell 0)
Bell very watchful to Malinga first up and it is a maiden.
Doesn't look to be a huge deal of pace in the pitch. Malinga was averaging between 83 and 85 during that over. Good start from Sri Lanka's spearhead with the ball, though.
1st over: England 4-0 (Cook 4, Bell 0)
Gentle pace from Kulasekara to start with and Cook gets off the mark with a cut that speeds to the boundary past backward point for four from the fifth ball of the over.
Gusty winds at The Oval. Malinga to open from the other end.
1.00pm: National anthems complete, and we are ready to PLAY!
Kulasekara marks out his run up, Cook takes guard and away we go.
12.51pm: Just under 10 minutes to go now until Cook and Bell open for England.
The big news today is that David Warner has been fined £7,000 and suspended until the first Ashes Test. More on that HERE, or read Paul Newman's thoughts HERE.
When asked about Malinga at the toss, Sri Lanka captain Mathews said: 'He is a key factor in our bowling.' Our man Paul Newman thinks so too. Read his views HERE.
12.45pm: The teams in full for today:
England: Cook, Bell, Trott, Root, Morgan, Bopara, Buttler, Bresnan, Broad, Swann, Anderson.
Sri Lanka: Perera, Dilshan, Sangakkara, Jayawardene, Chandimal, Mathews, Thirimanne, Kulasekara, Herath, Eranga, Malinga.
12:32pm: SRI LANKA WON THE TOSS AND HAVE ELECTED TO BOWL FIRST
One change for England. Graeme Swann in, James Tredwell out.
Alastair Cook told Nasser Hussain at the toss: 'We would have had a bowl as well with the overhead coditions and a bit of rain about. If we win today we are through and its great to get to the last game without having to win.'
One change for Sri Lanka, too. Nuwan Kulasekara in for Thisara Perera.
A few words from Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews at the toss.
'There's a little bit of grass on it and we are playing three seamers. The English teams are very used to these conditions but we need to adapt and score some runs.'
12.20pm: Good afternoon and welcome to Sportsmail's coverage of this Champions Trophy match between England and Sri Lanka in Group A.
